Reconsidering the Economics of Demand Analysis with Kinked Budget Constraints

چکیده
This paper has two objectives. First, we identify a problem with the ability of the discretecontinuous choice framework and conditional demand functions to fully describe consumer preferences in the presence of kinked budget constraints. Second, we propose and illustrate an alternative, preference-based method for estimating consumer responses to price changes under these conditions. This framework recognizes that commitments to commodities such as pools or outdoor landscaping influence how water consumption responds to price changes as part of the long-run consumption adjustments. With microdata on household choices, this approach could be used to design increasing block rate structures that recognize the differences in water consumption responses with these commit-

Mental pattern of investment demand for housing in urban areas by Grounded Theory
Optimal housing selection is one of the most important challenges in housing demand, which most people, especially housing investors, are facing. Although there is an overall agreement on the importance of the budget role on choosing the house, the model that uniquely measures the role and impact of all the factors of investment demand for housing has not been presented and no clear explanation...
متن کاملA Dynamic analysis of Health care supply and demand management: A Case Study Hospitals of Social Security Organization
Background: The outlook for hospital care is changing rapidly. Supply and demand stimuli in the health service system are changing dramatically. The health department of the Social Security Administration has also been challenged by the growing number of patients. This study was conducted to help this organization with the aim of designing a conceptual causal model of the interaction between su...
متن کاملA Theory of the Perturbed Consumer with General Budgets
We consider demand systems for utility-maximizing consumers facing general budget constraints whose utilities are perturbed by additive linear shifts in marginal utilities. Budgets are required to be compact but are not required to be convex. We define demand generating functions (DGF) whose subgradients with respect to these perturbations are convex hulls of the utility-maximizing demands. We ...

The consumption set X is the set of all conceivable consumption bundles q, usually identified with R+ The budget set B ⊂ X is the set of affordable bundles In standard model individuals can purchase unlimited quantities at constant prices p subject to total budget y. The budget set is the Walrasian, competitive or linear budget set: B = {q ∈ R+|pq ≤ y} Notice this is a convex, closed and bounde...
متن کاملMulti-item inventory model with probabilistic demand function under permissible delay in payment and fuzzy-stochastic budget constraint: A signomial geometric programming method
This study proposes a new multi-item inventory model with hybrid cost parameters under a fuzzy-stochastic constraint and permissible delay in payment. The price and marketing expenditure dependent stochastic demand and the demand dependent the unit production cost are considered. Shortages are allowed and partially backordered. The main objective of this paper is to determine selling price, mar...
